Thank you soo much for bringing awareness to this social injustice and double-standard. I particularly like the comment about how the porn industry and topless bars make money- they hid the breast to create a desire to see them, and thus over-sex them and create a market. Well, we've got to reclaim our right and dignity to be women and not be subject to the societal norm of marketing our bodies.
Let's take a step forward towards being a civilized society for a change.
Thank you TopFree!
Keonna
Men who have unflattering chests will be made fun of in public. Extra hair, saggy, breast like chests will draw remarks from some people. Will the laws equally protect men and women? or just women. Much like gender bias toward clothes. Women in manly clothes does not seem to draw much attention. Men in feminine clothes oftern will draw rude if not harassing comments. Sometimes violence will be directed toward these men. Typically the law will consider these men to deserve what they get. I am all for equality for everybody equally. Note some countries men go bottomless. Are these the civilized countries? I am just posing the questions. Please tell me of your feelings.

Do you not know that the greatest fear of North Americans (including Canadians) is not terrorists or the radicals among us. It is the exposed female breast! It strikes terror into their hearts, hence the near panic at Janet Jackson's recent onstage fiasco. It is inconceivable that breast-feeding women can be harrased by police who have nothing better to do...at taxpayers expense. Isn't breast-feeding the way God designed it? Congratulations from a 76 year old Brit male on your efforts in the name of freedom and sanity.
The Old Man
There are more women in this country than men, and they need their freedom. If men saw breasts more often then the obsession would go away. If a women wants to show her breast she should have the right to be equal to a topless man.
Mustang man
Comment from a man:
Women, don't worry about your breast size or appearance. If any man can only get turned on by one type or size of breast, he's not worth your time anyway. Also, please don't think badly of us men if we look, or stare -- it's just that all women's breasts (regardless of type or size) are pretty. And who doesn't like to look at "pretty"? Some of the most beautiful nude-women sculptures have been carved by women-sculptors. So "pretty" is recognized -- you women are so lucky! So, then, we look, and stare. But don't get uncomfortable about it. We're not necessarily being horny, just being appreciative, that's all. Finally, please don't pretend -- we know that you women look (even stare) at the better-looking of us men, too ! Another thing: exposure is not sexy unless it's intended to be (that's on YOU).

Consider what happened when ankles were seen! Then legs then miniskirts (remember schoolgirls had to kneel to show their skirts were long enough). Nothing terrible happened, except many women felt freer and exercised more? Could topfree undercut the porn epidemic on line?
yeaperson
I grew up in a Christian home learning traditional values and yet I find there's something "special" about being able to be free from any constraints of clothing bras ect. I wish it was a matter of personal choice like so many other things are in this country.
Bobbee
I disagree with the person who said that a man's chest is not sexy. Whether a person is sexy or not is in the eye of the beholder. I would agree that everyone should be allowed to go topless at any time if we didn't have such a problem with sexual/control issues for some non - law abiding people who have problems with nudism of any kind with relation to men, women, or children. I just believe people should be topless where they are allowed. Is it really a RISK you would want to take in Public??
I have a question for men - are there certain breast sizes you would not like to see topless or braless? And what gives men the right to decide? I am a plus-size woman.
margaret
[in response to Margaret above:]
Margaret:
As a man, there are no breast sizes that I would not want to see topless. I enjoy viewing the different sizes and shapes of the female breast.
A woman should have the right to be top free wherever I have the right to be top free.
Glacier
How terrible to make a breast obscene! We should be able to be adults and act accordingly and not like perverts. Top free is the right of everyone or should be!
namurt
I would personally love to go topless without the staring eyes... I absolutely love the feel when your breasts jump up and down without bra's and tops!
Prishita Rajendra
Bravo for your site! It is really the prevailing norm (topfree fear) that is perverted in the U.S. The forces of social and legal banishment are based on misconceptions, self-doubt and shame. It will be a long, hard road to get even to where Europe is with the non-controversy of bare breasts in public, unfortunately.
David S
If they are not hurting anybody, why shouldn't it be legal all over the place?
Jon R
women should be able to go topless in public cause men can and the cops dont do anything to them.
cierra duke
I agree 100% that women should be allowed to be topfree wherever men can be. I would love to be able to go topfree in a local park or beach on a regular basis, but that freedom has been taken away from me and other women, except for certain locations. I am for the de-criminalization of the female breast. I so much wish the spirit of the 1960's social movements in the U.S. was alive and well. That's what we need to encourage change in the attitudes about women's breasts. Until this attitude change occurs, women won't be comfortable exercising their topfreedom rights in places where it is legal to do so. Those of us who agree with this must come together, men and women, wherever you live. Given the current cultural attitudes about breasts and the number of men who behave like predators, I would feel much safer going topfree with a group of women than by myself. We as women have to get together and make it clear that we want this. We must build our courage.
Theresa
I am all for topfreedom and I'm so glad to find your website! Now I think it's time to push the envelope and start making some changes, rather than just discuss the issue. Start educating, lifting bans on showing breasts in the media, change the public's attitude towards breasts, research the health of bras (which have been linked to breast cancer in certain studies), etc. Let's act! I've been searching for a website to take action - please let me know if there is one that I haven't found. Thanks and keep up the good work!

I used to make numerous trips to Florida while traveling in a band. It was shocking to see a nude beach at first. But after awhile it was pretty normal. After seeing people behave normally under those conditions, it makes you realize things.

Thinking wearing topless in India is just like a dream come true. Here the women's wear saree's,and when they feed there baby they feel shame. According to me topless should be allowed everywhere. If men can open there shirts then women can also do that. We should be free in every side.
shona
B.C Canada is legal for topless too. It only took the girls seventy years to catch up with the guys in top free. Cheers. Dave
I have always thought of the fact that women should be able to topless if they choose to. I have tried to get members of congress to allow therse things but they fall on deaf ears. But i'm not giving up, don't you. It's your choice, your right
Mark Galloway
I have won three Topfree cases in the state of Florida in the past three years. I have done three political Topfree Stand protests in Daytona Beach Florida in the past three years, as well. Now that I have found your site I would like to keep in touch with other women who feel as I do about Topfreedom. I am a Topfree Revolutionary who has been kicking Big Brother's butt down here. I hope you will enjoy corresponding with me and following with me as I move foreward with our topfree crusade. The Constition is in place for women, as well as, men. I am working with many other topfree advocates around the country in this fight. Our numbers are great and our spirits are indominatible. It takes courage to use the voice the Constitution gives us. But we have done this before and we can do it again. Not long ago, women in this country were not even allowed to vote or work outside the home. It is amazing what we can achieve when we put our hearts and minds to it! courage is the ability to voer come fear. Have courage and stand by your convictions. I find it very unfortunate that most of North America is still in the Dark Ages when it comes to TRULY Equal Rights for women. Even here in Canada where we pretend to be fairly liberated about nudity one can still see dismembered bodies on the news but a womens nipples will be fuzzed out! There is something very TWISTED about the reasoning that chooses to censor a natural human body but will show readily show extreme violence and gore. A woman should be allowed to be topless any place that a man can, why should she be treated any differently. We reprimand many third world countries for not respecting peoples civil rights, yet we (with our male dominated governments) still treat women as second class citizens, different from men!! On what basis because they have a vagina instead of a penis, and mammary tissue in their breasts?? What right do we men have to expect women to be treated any worse then us? Under the Law or Otherwise! It appalls me we who fancy ourselves as so civilized are really a bunch of cavemen, OOPS Sorry, even bone headed Cavemen would let their women be topless!. We could learn a lot from the Europeans!!
Arthur Shiels
I don't see any problem with women being topless. When I was growing up I would be nude aroun mom and sister until I was 19 and moved out.
George
I support the topfree movement 100%. The idea that a woman's breasts are sexual organs that need to be "hidden" is a very primitive notion. Has anyone ever noticed that a woman's breast bare a striking resemblance to a man's chest? You have skin, with a small patch of slightly darker skin. It's funny when you think about it. The skin on a breast doesn't look much different than the skin on say, an arm. Keep up the good work ladies!
Joe
I'm up for it and everything, but swimming in a public swimming pool with bikini's is already a hassle for us Big cheasted girls. I'm a 32 DD. That is self explanatory. But I say welldone to those that actually do it !!
Jess Haily
I agree with your ideas without reservation. There is no reason that women should not be able to be bare chested anyplace men are allowed to be.
Karen Raymond
I agree completely! I would love to see a few places in each city that I could do what I want to do with my breasts, Exposed or covered, they belong to me, not the world. I would for sure take my top in protest!!!!!!
chuck
I try to live toppless all the time. I can feel so free. But im allways afraid of the police or someone else hwo can complain or do something bad to me. Its stupid that women cant go topfree when men can.
I live in Sweden and are just 17 years old. So i understand if people get upset or angry. But its my body and my feelings.
toppfree girl
I Support This So Highly. It Just Wouldn't Be Fair If Men Could Go Topless And Women Couldn't. I'm A Very Very Anti - Sexist Person. It's Nice To See Some Changes Occur.
Austin James Schock
More power to these (brave) women, to challenge these irrational and retarded taboos. By doing so, they make the world a more beautiful, more interesting, and most importantly, more free, place to live in.
I challenge all women to at some point to do this, and I challenge all men to grow up, get use to it, and clap for them and cheer them on, rather than oogle or stare or make some purile come on comment. Instead, take your own shirt off to show your support and solidarity for these women.
When it becomes an ordinary thing, it won't be extraordinary anymore, and the ones who will be the odd ones out will not be the barechested ones, but the ones who take notice of such things.
I have always viewed the laws that pertain to breast exposure in the US as gender biased. What makes my nipples any different from those of men's? Why is my body "indecent" and not men's. I have thought it would certainly bring things up front (no pun intended) legally if people reported topless people in the parks when they see them. Just imagine, if I called and reported 20+ topless people in the park (men). It would be even more to the point if 20 people called and reported the topless people. I am not advocating the loss of the right for men to go without shirts, but trying to make the point that it is sexually biased and indecent for my government to tell me that while mens breasts (and yes, we know that they do have them) are perfectly acceptable in public, mine aren't.
I believe these laws hurt self esteem in girls and women. They are detrimental to the personal happiness of an entire gender.
This is what I would like to see in the courts on the issue of breast exposure; not "the right to breastfeed in public" Anyway, thanks for listening and it sure would be interesting to get a group who are scattered across the US and Canada to make "topless" reports for a given week this next summer.:)
thanks for your time
Susan
I strongly feel that it should be made a law that Women be allowed to choose. There is nothing more natural than seeing a Mother Breastfeed her Child. I'm sure there would be a Major uproar for a while, but things would subside quickly in a short period of time. Rod
Rodney
I to believe women should be aloud to have the option of being topless or not. a women's breast is a tool for feeding a baby. i would love to travel back in time and see what was on the mind of the people who started the whole thing. why should women have to deal with the heat and bothersome clothing. we were all born naked anyhow. in closing i think the naked body issue has gotten out of hand in the us. but that's just my opinion. keep up the good work..
Scott
Just a comment....
I think every state should have at least one place where women are able to go top free. I really think every city should have top free places that one could go and not have any fear of being arrested or assulted.
I would love to be top free when I go camping, sun bathing and a number of other places. It is sad that we can't be free to do this in our own back yard. I have no place to go, why should we be suppressed?
I hope that some day and soon this will all change.
Thanks for the opportunity to offer my opinion.

Some countries get very hot durng summer. Men are allowed to remove their shirts and be top free, so why can't women do the same. I feel that women should be allowed to be topless when driving, shopping, going for a walk to beach or doing house chores or anywhere else. Wearing a top should be an option. My wife gets very hot during summer and goes topless at home. It is so beautiful to look at a womens breasts as natural and not as an object that is harmful.Children should be encouraged to see womens breasts bare, after all all of us breasfed on our mums
pv
Who cares they're just a breasts. I'm a man and I'm not offended, I don't even like breasts, not that I'm gay, I'm straight, but there is some sort of misconception that all men like breasts. Where did this idiotic view come from anyways, I see women as attractive based on their face, as do most other men. This common fallacy is so stupid, it is just as illogical as saying pornography is the cause of most all rape that occurs, most rape cases are caused by men with severe psychological conditions, not pornography.
natal
When I'm alone or just with my friends camping some where remote, I go topless. And honestly, why is it such a big deal. Half the population has breasts. What's so sexual about them anyway. I mean if they're so 'secretive' then why should men be able to show their chest.
Christie
I am and have always been in favor of Breast Freedom. Women nursing their beautiful Child in public is a beautiful site. I think the crime rate for rape and incest would drop dramatically in a short period of time. I'm all for it!!!
Rod
I have lived all over the world and it seems topfreedom for women is only stopped in some Middle East countries and most places in the good old prudish U.S.A.. I really want to know what is the problem with a woman's breast as it is basically a device to feed a baby. It seems that the nipple and areola is the part of the breast all the prudish American see to consider the sex attraction as you sure see alot of women breast exposed in everyday ware. So what's the big thing about a mound of flesh with a darkened area and a protrusion. Wake up you prudes, and let the women make their choice of being or not being topfree.
Shom
I think they should go topless, because women should be able to have freedom.
Davis Landry
Seems like an obvious idea. Why aren't more people behind this?
Dan Mason
Why not breast feed if baby needs to be fed, and if women want to ge topless like men, let them do it to have freedom too.
marion roberts
To undo the direct sexual association with breasts is a steep battle up hill. The media makes a lot of money selling sex and the media more powerfully shapes present day culture than anything I know. I have trouble believing that there are enough willing people to support this revolution. But it truly would be a wonderful thing.
I also believe that common exposture to breasts would eventually diminish this travesty. Yet I disagree that it is women who are most bound by the perversion of our culture. In truth I believe that we men equally suffer. The corrupted view of breasts is designed to make men more and more subject to the attacks of sexual ads and entertainment. This propells men to sexual indulgence and women to become more sexually enticing, in which both become morally destitute and often victims of criminal acts. Surely, our very genetics make more fit bodies appealing, but sexual obsession with nudity and particularly with breasts has been planned to spike our naturally tendencies into money-making impropriety.
Perhaps we can trigger a revolution. (More probable that we can't.) But I, for one, intend my children to have adequate exposure to nudity outside the media, so that their minds and hearts may resist the poison that surrounds them. They will be modest as long as society would otherwise villify them, but their hearts and minds will not bear the chains of society's bondage.
MT
I think they should go topless, because women should be able to have freedom.

We talk so much about love and motherhood. But we make the one thing that makes mother dirty. I was in Hawaii couple years back. There was female police officer sitting there breast feeding her baby .Wife and I thought how wonderful is that. As you pointed out women of the past and some country in the world still do permit going top free. Good luck
George
The body is a perfectly natural thing. How anyone could get traumatised by it is beyond me. No other animal in the world wears clothes, and yet no-one has ever been traumatised by the sight of a naked dog (though I suspect some have been traumatised by the ones dressed up!) We are no different to them, so why should our bodies be treated differently, It makes no sense whatsoever.

IF A MAN CAN RUN AROUND SHIRTLESS AND/OR DOING WHAT A GUY DOES, THEN A WOMAN SHOULD BE ABLE TO DO THE SAME THING LIKE A MAN. A GUY CAN DO WHAT THEY WANT TO, BUT IT'S TOTALLY DIFFERENT FOR A WOMAN AND IN MY BOOKS THAT'S ALOT OF COW CAKES.
I SAY RIP THE CLOTHES OFF AND ENJOY THE FREEDOM OF BEING MRS, MS AND/OR MISS "I'M NOT WEARING ANY CLOTHES AT ALL".

As a "naturalist" (not a nudist) I see no reason why women should not have the ability to go topless in public. My Native American families have been doing it for years. More power to you and keep up the good work I say!

Hey if men kept their chest covered as much as women then maybe women would find men cheast sexual.
kp
America is Victorian, that's for sure....and while I don't really want to see topless PEOPLE (men OR women) everywhere, I do think that women should be accepted topless in the same places men are; like beaches, for instance.... or mowing their lawn, in the pool, etc. As far as the sexual part of it, I'm not sure I WANT men (especially my husband) to become de-sensitized. But women should definitely have the right to go topless in the same places/situations men are.
Jayna
Well im 16 years old. I think that showing your BREASTS is not a big deal. In fact, if it was up to me to go topless to school, I would, you mean if the guys at school can take off their T-shirts [during P.E], why cant we be topless, right!!!!!!!!
Angie
Hey i know how we could solve this problem. We could make areas where people can be topless. I mean there can be parks, pools and lakes where women are free to go topless. They should be free to go topless in the yard if they have a wooden fence. this could help out some
summer joel
I think you guys are great! Thanks for speaking out for all us woman who want equal rights!
Kathleen
Hey sense it's legal to go topeless in new york maybe girl should start going topless. Hey most of them are probably unaware it's legal. If more girls went topless in new york maybe it would become normole there. I say we should start going topless in new your ASAp. They everybody it's legal!
kp
I think Anne-Marie is right. We are sending mixed messages by telling women to keep their breasts covered up but also enlarge and display them. These mandantory top requirement laws need to be eliminate along with all the other outdated and unecessary laws. Their too confusing and have too many technicalities. In other words, simplify the laws.
We are living in a double standard society and we need to change that.
I remember, as a child, seeing my mothers breasts many a times and I certainly wasn't traumatized by it. I also remember wondering why other women didn't want their breasts seen. They always had a shirt on or were covered up. Yet, they wore shirts revealing their cleavage or wore string bikinis. This is just sending mixed message.
Come on people.Women's breasts are beautiful and they should show them if they want to or need to without fear of arrest, tickets, or harassment.
Dan
it sould be legeal for women to be able to take there tops off. why shall they suffer the heat they're loving, hardworking, and should be able to do every like i a man can do beside it would become natural after seeing people topfree!
drew
I feel that a mother wants to breast feed in public she shuld be able to just go right ahead even if she is not, I mean to say, is none of anyone elses business
Go right ahead.
William A. Jackson
Women should be allowed to go topless. It's as simple as that. There's nothing to fear. In Japan, for instance, jr.high and high school girls play "Shirts & Skins" shirtless and braless just like the boys do in P.E. class,w ith the boys! And they think our view on nudity is just silly. I happen to agree!
It's a shame. Parents can't even take picture of their kids in the bathtub without getting slapped with child porography charges. My sister-in-law doesn't do this because of this fear. This is ridiculous!
The nudist camps have got it right. Everyone is free and relaxed in the nude. It's a shame that we can't enjoy it in public.
In Denmark, for another example, its not illegal to be nude anywhere. As long as your not urinating, defecating, [being obscene] there is no problem. Makes sense to me.
I think people have trouble accepting body types other than the perfect ones seen in magazines and movies. But most people don't look like Alyssa Milano or Brad Pitt.I think it reveal a lack of maturity on a lot of people's part and an inferiority complex among people. If your mature enough to accept your own body type, you should be mature enough to accept somebody else's body type.

This website is doing some great things for women who feel insecure or odd because of their breast shape or size. Breaking down the lies of the media. I myself, being even 19, have never seen any bare breasts except through television. (I know, it's weird.) I had never realized the amount of lies that abound or the pressure that woman must feel, to live up to or to fall into, the molds that the media has created.
I have one female friend who has never said anything directly about feeling insecure over her cup size, but repeated comments have told me that she is unsettled about this. I wish I could give her some positive assurance without being to direct. (Thoughts?) I tried to encourage her without being blunt, but I never get the message across. I have been wondering what keeps her so wrapped about this, why it's such a big deal. Now I see that she is surely reminded everyday by the media of the lies they have caused her to believe and that it is hard to tell yourself otherwise when you it is so pervasive in our culture today.
But the points made on this site are great ones, the amount of attention that is given to this single body part is just simply stupid and is painful or harmful to all women who don't playing in the sexual dance culture tries to force them into.
Although I don't agree that North Americans should accept a culture of topfreedom for woman, I have an equally acceptable solution! Lets simply start the move towards a culture of forced topwearing for men! Ladies, instead of getting equality by gaining the same freedom men have, gain equality by forcing men to wear the same chains woman have had to endure. *grins* Surely then we see mens chest (or stomach) become an object of interest among women. Men with definded abs would be on all the billboards teasing the eyes, meanwhile beer bellies would become a commonplace reasome for insecurity among men. Then things would truly be made fair! *smiles*
Martin
hey if girls where allowed to go topless like men then boys would become use to seeing girls breast over time. I mean it would be like looking at a boy chest. There would be boys and girls running around topless. I think girls should be free to go around topless. What would it be like if both women and men where wlaking around topless at a publix poopl. I mean people all ages going topless. I'm trying to picture it.
Denard Peterson
I am 17, and since year 7, I have been repeatedly bullied for having small breasts. This has effected me severely in my confidence and I have gone through long states of depression, feeling worthless and un-attractive. I have also (sorry for being so open, I just feel very passionate on this subject) come very close to suicide many times before because of this.
To this day, it still troubles me, and definitely has a strong effect on previous and current relationships. and I fear it always will. Now why make people like me suffer to this extent, just in the name of sticking by traditional social conformity ? Society is changing all the time, mainly for the worst, so why not make a good change for once, and put an end to the many prejudice aspects which come from this un-fair social rule. If anybody is sexually orientating womans breasts, it is the people in charge of the law - by isolating topless women, from topless men. Other cultures can be free, so why cant we?
catherine
I do not think that it's obscene for a woman to go topless. I grew up in the southeast part of the United States and was used to seeing women breast feed their babies. I don't think I have ever seen a more beautiful sight than a baby taking nourishment at its mothers breast. Also, there isn't a more beautiful sight than a woman's body. I cannot figure out where people got to be such selfrightous pricks that they think that a woman should be buried under layers of clothes. It has only been a short time in history that a man has been able to go without a shirt. There isn't anything obscene or vulgar about the nude human body. Our bodies are made in God's image. There certainly isn't anything obscene or vulgar abour God. We have enough to to try to do without people trying to make new rules and regulations to make life more difficult for someone. God's most beautiful creation was a woman's nude body. A woman's body is nothing to be ashamed of. It's time that people shed the Victorian influence that still affect our lives. Give the women a break. If they want to go topless let them. It's their bodies. If they want to walk around topless, it's their business. Give the women the same liberty that us guys enjoy.
Ghost Rider
I see no reason why all women don't all go topless, A womens breast is a beautful part of the human body

our societal norms are the opposite of what they should be...
it's illogical to charge topless women with 'disorderly conduct'...
unless they are jumping around, screaming, and throwing things at people, they aren't being disorderly.
they're being natural.
the one who is complaining, and calling the police, is creating the 'disorder', wasting the police department's valuable time and the court system's valuable time, not to mention our tax dollars...
the one complaining should be charged with 'disorderly conduct, sexual harrassment, etc..'...
they are like the person who pulls the fire alarm in a school or theatre and wastes the fire department's valuable time...
the one who is complaining is the one with the problem, and with the unhealthy view of breasts, and that one is guilty of sexual harrassment (only instead of touching the breast, they are repressing someone else's innate freedom, even worse, having the person hauled off to jail!)...
i would like to see topless women start pressing charges against those who are complaining...
reverse the way people look at the issue...
i would like to see lawsuits filed against cities, states, towns, governments, etc., for sexual harrassment and discrimination towards women...
those who see 'porn' or 'dirtiness' or 'sexuality' in the female breast have issues and they should have the finger pointed back at them.
they need to defend their actions.
i don't blame them, most of us, men or women, were seduced or mislead, or corrupted, or conditioned as children to think of breasts as something sexual...
but we have to turn the tables...
those who say women shouldn't bare their breasts are guilty of sexual harrassment and discrimination, even if that is not their conscious intent, even if their intent is to protect society, or children, or women themselves.
they simply don't undestand fully their reactions to breasts... they don't have a handle on their reactions, they are embarassed, or ashamed, or uncomfortable, or something...
breasts are beautiful, they should be admired, it is natural to look at them, just as it is a bird, or a flower, or a sunset, or a '65 mustang convertible, or a male GQ model, or a wild horse, nature is full of beauty...
if a man has a sexual response to a breast, that is his problem to unravel, and the challenge to overcome is helping that man, especially be him a congressman, let go of that sexual response... because like any chemical high, it's enjoyable.
we have to be honest, right?
but if we make him responsible for his feelings, and for his projections, and allow women their innate freedom to be barechested, eventually, he will get used to breasts and they will lose their 'charge'...
but he has to be made responsible for his feelings, women, and men, have to point the finger at him and say that HE is the one (or she, let's not discrimate), who is sexualizing the female breast, and HE or SHE is guilty of sexual harrassment.
i think one way to start would be to approach local governments, city councils, with petitions asking for support of equal rights for men and women...
very innocently.
most people will think this is a waste of time, that we already have such laws, but nonetheless, we could persist and pass such ordinances, as which city councilor, or mayor, could say they were against 'equal rights for men and women'...
once such laws passed, then women could ask for their topfreedom back, politely, or through protest, it's up to each individual as to how they go about it.
good site, keep going, those are my thoughts for today
aaron
I think woman have the right to go topless. Though i would personaly not do it, it would be nice to have the right to
TM
I think woman have a right to go topless. I am young, but I know what it feels like on a hot summer day in GA. A bra can really make you sweat on the really hot days. One time I went out for 10 min, and was alredy sweating! It would feel great to have the sun shining on my breast, not overheating it. If men can feel better with no shirts on in the summer, why can't woman?

i was an aquatic director at a military pool in southern calif. in 1984 i received a directory from headquarters in Washington D.C. that we could not violate womens rights to be topfree in military pools and beaches by telling them to wear tops

It is true that breasts are not the matter of arousal or stimulation for men, its the perception about them. Its all in the mind and nothing in the breasts itself, which are nothing but the ordinary body parts like nose, toes and elbows etc.

I think it should be ok for a lady to go topfree the same asw a man. enough of this segregation of sexes. Female breasts are beautiful and not meant to be confined or hidden. As a man i can think of nothing more beautiful or natural than a mother nursing her child without having to hide or be ashamed to do what is natural. Time that we the human race got a life and lifted the mind from the gutter.

I think it's wonderful that people are starting to address this issue with more audacity. I am sixteen, living in Montana, but I feel that even as an adolescent I am equipped with plausable views on the subject. Last year, a woman was sent to court with a charge of Disorderly Conduct, for laboring (On her own time) topless, in her fenced backyard. Breasts are not meant to be items of sexuality. They can be admired, doted on. But They are to be viewed as a thing of beauty, integrity, individuality... what makes us; us. It appears that today's popculture has drastically altered those ideals. Women were once able to breastfeed, and even change in relatively public places, up until the recent boom of sexually promotive magazines, video games, movies, television series; even books homogenize breasts as the metaphorical "Forbidden Fruit," which is entirely false. They simply are, as previously stated, organs given to us so that we may nourish care for our children. I personally would love to see this hideous uproar of moral displacement reach an end. I'd be enthralled to run around topless, and so would my mother, for that matter. Males have the privelage to go in public shirtless, yet we don't? The policies are absurd.
I wholeheartedly encourage this forum, and hope something will be done so that ladies may recieve what they've always deserved: Mutual respect.

Topfree for women makes sense if men are allowed to go bottom free. Otherwise, women are merely encouraged to continue to be eye candy for shallow men who use patriarchy for their own purpose to degrade, ridiciule, or dominate women. Female coverup serves the same function as male coverup: to prevent physical exposure that invites the premise of fungible bodies without brains. Males covered up means women must look to their brains and personalities for connection. Women have not allowed themselves the same courtesy.

All men are created equal...Our government and the people of America seem to have interpreted this as "all people" rather than just land-owning white men, as was most likely intended by the counding fathers. If we are interpreting that law as "all people", therefore thinking for ourselves and not ignoring the rational idea that it should be all people, then women have the same rights that men do. Therefore, if men have the right to go out topless whenever they like, women do too. Based on our interpretation of the Constitution, women have this right, and the fact that it is still illegal in so many areas of America is not only ridiculous, but simply unconstitutional.

i read in tera's news that in november that california has no law aganist topfreedom or nudity. if this is true how do we educate women and men about it
marion mackey
I think that this is an issue that will certainly raise heads, but I don't really see a problem with it. unless your religion speaks otherwise or if there are just people that don't want to expose thamselves or children to it then it should be leaglized especially breastfeeding in publc.
keisha
i'm a guy and i don't understand why it is ok for me to go outinto public with my shirt off but it isn't ok for women. are we still in the stone ages or what? it has nothing to do with wanting to see breasts, it's just about the freedom of choice and equality.
chad
I fully agree with your aspirations and would like to express my admiration of those women who have the courage of being topfree in public!

First comes the true meaning of freadom if freadom is to do to one self as you wish so long as it dos'nt bring harm to another in any way posible than why not have topfreedom ?.
TOM
The breast is a very delicate body organ. They are beautiful, not matter what shape or size. The U. S. is so far behind compared to other countries. I prefer the smaller breasted women, but that is just me. I love the flat chested women, but other men do not. We are all different. Women should never experiment with enlarging the breasts. They always regret it in the end. Us men are not all horntoads. Thanx for letting me put my 2 cents in. jj

Sorry but what makes you say the media HIDE breasts? The reason they are viewed as sex objects (which actually they do play a strong part in sex) is because the media constantly show them and do it in a sexual way.
Before you ever take off your tops in public you should first be lobbying for the media to stop showing women like this. (Most movies and adverts and music videos are scantily dressed women sexed up!) This is people's first and foremost education. Educate them to think normally about women.
You seem to be allowing yourselves to be flattered by the comments of men saying "Oh I think you should take off your tops" but what else are they going to say? I think men should be able to walk around with their trousers off but I bet you won't get men saying "I think that's a great idea!". Nor would they do it because they fear being compared. Just as women do.
So, please do make it private. Take your tops off in your back yard or on the correct beach but don't make me feel uneasy about myself. I don't deserve that and it just seems as if you are all exibitionists that believe everyone else wants to look at your not-so-privates. We truly don't.
Can you grant us that? Can you understand that just because you are perfectly happy to bare all it doesn't mean you have the right to inflict that on others. Nor has the media. Fight that. They shouldn't do it and it comes under sexual harrassment laws if you look. It is what makes us so unhappy and feel unnaturally anxious about our bodies.
With the media actively portraying women as sex objects you will never ever change the overall view of breasts. They are for the sole purpose of male stimulation (that is how men, and women, view it) and if you can change that first then going topless (in the right place) won't be such a big deal.
Sandra
Yes, I'm a guy... not a perv. I think this is a wonderful sight. I agree that if female topfreedom was legal as is male, women would be free to breastfeed without worry. But the retailers would lose lots of advertising potential. good luck.
Ron
it's a matter of a woman's right to choose to go naked or topfree is not as immoral as murdering defenseless babies. many men should not be allowed shirtless in public if theylook like they should be wearing bras
phil rhon
WELL,THERE ARE CERTIAN MEN OF CERTIAN AGES AND CONDITIONS THAT , LIKE WONEN , SHOULD DEFINITELY NOT GO TOPLESS. AND KEEPING THE SEX PART IN PERSPECTIVE, I HAVE SEEN MANY LADIES BOTH CLOTHED AS WELL AS TOPLESS. SONE ARE SEXY , SOME ARE NOT MY CUP OF TEA. BUT THE FEMALE BREAST IS ALWAYS TO BE REGARDED AS BEAUTIFUL.
ROGER RENNER
STOP TALKING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I live in a small town in Greenfield, Indiana, and have been at best annoyed by the discrimination against women in regards to having the right to bear their breasts in public. I don't really care when or how the laws were developed to "keep women in their place" but there's only one way to overturn laws: PROTEST! I would gladly rally my mother, sisters, neice, daughters and myself to protest this damaging law against women. Just for the record with the decrease in the amount of fabric being used on tops these days, it's really not the breasts that the law finds offensive, it's the nipples. What is that all about?! Also, the more attractive you are, the more racey and exposed you are entitled to be. This has to stop! It seems like such a small idea to so many that there's only one way to get noticed. PROTEST, PROTEST, PROTEST! I don't want to be able to go to work without my top or the grocery store, but I would like to be able to have the right and the opportunity to remove my shirt and bra in the same places that a man has the right to. Did anyone hear about the Breasts Not Bombs protesters in California who were arrested for bearing their breasts in public? The prosecutors are considering whether the women should be charged as sexual offenders. Can you believe that! This has to stop! We are spending countless dollars and human lives "freeing" Iraq. Women are allowed to reveal their faces now. But here at home if you "expose" your breasts, you will be registered as a sexual offender! Who wants to rally? Who's really serious about claiming our rights? E-mail me at thehealingplace3@netzero.net and let's make a plan!
Karen
the bare breast of a woman is one of the most beautiful part of here body , if a miss choses to go topless i say let be so and let her expose her beauty that is what we are based on choice of freedon.
dale m. yocum
Any part of the body can be made erotic. Nibbling on ears for example, can be very sexually stimulating, yet nobody is offended by people showing their ears in public.
groon
It's great to see that this idea is finally getting some momentum.
As a man I enjoy going shirtless every time the weather and circumstances allow. The feeling is the greatest and I can only imagine that it must be an equally great feeling for a woman to go bare breasted on a warm sunny day.
I know that gaining acceptance of a woman's right to go top free will be a slow process (frankly I think it took men some time as well) - but I believe that starting with rule changes in a few public beaches and parks we can start to make this long overdue change.
As men, our responsibility will be to show respect and courtesy to every woman who chooses to go top free.

I Think That Everyone Should Have The Right To Go Topless
Wherever They Please As Long As It Is Comfortable For That Person

I spent Time in Germany when I was in the army in the late 70's. Going topless was so common it was no big deal. I cant see what the big deal here in the states is.

I remember reading an article about Burnaby, BC firefighters.
Apparently, male firefighters had pictures of topless women in their
locker rooms, and they were asked to take them down. The men
successfully argued that because the women firefighters had pictures
of topless men, that it was discrimination. Eventually, all pictures
had to be taken down.
I'm not a particularly big fan of pornography, but it just seemed like
an interesting side note to this issue.
I had another question, maybe you can help me with. Well, first of
all, I'm a lifeguard, so this issue applies to me because it is my job
to enforce these rules. I work at some public pools, and some private
facilities. I understand that private facilities are allowed to make
their own rules regarding this issue. But my question is this: how
much can they discriminate? I mean apparently they can say that men
can go topless but women cannot. But could they make a discrimination
based on race, instead of gender? I suspect the answer is no.
Basically, where is the line drawn?
Jesse
ON pools, I assume you are talking about going topless. This is a
different issues from just posting pictures, see, because states have
what they call "Public nudity" laws and regulations. In those, it
might specifically say that a woman has to cover her breasts, and then
it might exclude breastfeeding from that. The exact text varies in
different states and I don't know all the details.
Anyway, a pool or swimming facility can thereby use the law as their
reason for not allowing topless women. So it wouldn't be so simple as
to say 'you're discriminating women'. Therefore, it is not that easy to
promote topfreedom - laws would need changed first. You might be
interested in visiting Tera website to read more.
its almost a racist thing it seems to me. i agree with alot of what i read on other peoples comments, however it is without a doubt racist, somewhere, sometime, it was said that it was nasty for a woman to be exposed in view of anyone whom she did not know, and wham bam it took affect. i think it would greatly reduce the crime against women in general. most men get all tripped out to see a women nude, get over it guys im a 40 yr old male........ they are just breasts. once you have seen one female breast you have seen them all. ps my wife agrees.
jerry
I feel women should be able to go topfree as breasts are NOT sex,I have seen men who should put their tops back on,Its sad that in the land of the free we are the most sexualy repressed country in the world.
women fought hard for equal rights, and yet they dont seem to have them,it should be up to the woman what she does to her own body and that includes abortions!!
We are for some reason still holding on to the old school bible thumpings of the founding fathers of this fine country,,,PEOPLE WAKE UP its the 21st century, lets get with the program!!
once something becomes mainstream it becomes blas`e,

As an Australian I can understand what all the fuss is about. Here in Oz, toplessness appears to be allowed on most beaches. I see women topless on most beaches I go to. I go topless at home in the back yard and inside. It is just so much more comfortable on a hot day.
At the beach I normally keep my bikini top on, partly because Mum would freak if she found out I took it off and partly because most of my friends go weird if I even hint at taking it off. I don't understand this. I respect my friends' right to keep their top on if they want to but I think I have the right to take mine off.
Peta
If men are allowed to go topfree in public than women should be given the same right. Afterall - I think all of us at one time or another have seen men whose breasts were as developed as many women's. Removing this taboo would go along ways to ending sexual tensions in our society!
Timothy
Bear breast should be the womans choice and not a goverments mandate.

Here's a reality check for those who are campaigning for topfree legislation. I live in New York State. Since 1992 it has been legal for any woman to be bare-chested anyplace in New York where it would also be legal for a man to do so. Legally, there is totally equality and the state law supersedes local ordnances. If a woman wants to mow her lawn stripped to the waist or wash her car that way, lay on a beach, or play volley ball in a park where men can be bare-chested, she can to. Although I have seen topless women on our beaches, it is in no greater numbers than occurred before it was legalized, and I have yet to see a single woman mowing her lawn, gardening, washing her car or walking down the street bare-chested.....not a single one. So it appears that this is a freedom that, once won, is simply not utilized anyway, which makes this entire topfreedom campaign much ado about nothing. Sorry, but that's the simple reality that I've seen here in New York WHERE IT HAS BEEN LEGAL FOR THIRTEEN YEARS.
Jerry
To respond to Jerry's comments about NYS top freedom. It is true that NYS have a topfree law since 1992. Yes in theory women can walk around top free. Try it you will be arrested. Police don't care what the law is they act as they see fit then its up to you to protect your rights.

Let's appriciate female beauty, not condone or hate it! For our childrens's sake and ours!
Pavel Sterlin
I believe that is a truely fabulous idea. I breast fed both of my children without the support of my family with the exception of their father. It was degrading to hav to hide in a room for every feeding. It is widely known that the breast is best and i think it is an equal right to bare them.
krista
I think that it is shameful that women must cover their breast in public and men don't. A womans breast are in some cases things of beauty that should be exposed in a non sexual way.
Lewis Parker
I doun't think it should be like that. You have to think of others as well as yourself. You have to think of the kids to. Young kids or older ones dount need to see it. For a woman to go topfree is like a woman that is saying I am easy, come get me.
Thomas Santillo
My mother would act like a neurotic, crazy old prude when i would breastfeed my son in public..how horrible, right?! I think that Americans are sometimes confused about these things! lol
Jen P.
Women should be allowed topfree in all situations. I encourage mothers to practice topfreedom at home at all times. Mothers should encourage both sons and daughters to go topfee whilst in the comfort of their homes. The only time you should cover up is in public if it is illegal to avoid fines. Some houses have high walls where women and families remain topfree in the gardens. I am not familiar with any country or city that allows women top freedom in public, such as driving a car, boarding a bus, train or flight or even going to do shopping especially if it is away from a beach.
freedom is beautiful
I think we should live in a totally "clothing optional" society. Those people who want to be nude all the time, can be. Those who want to be fully clothed all the time, can be. Those who want to be partially nude or clothed or clothed some of the time and nude otherwise, can be. A general state of public nudity for all would quickly erase a great deal of crime and pornography. Just visit a nudist resort and you will see that there is absolutely no connection between nudity and sex.
David
I don't believe there should be any fuss at all about nudity period. Nudity does not have to lewd. This has been proven the world over with topless and nude beaches. If they can operate without incident, then there shouldn't be a problem with nudity in all walks of life. No one would have to be nude if they didn't want to be, but could be if they did want to be.
Mia Tanner
God created us naked. Eve at the apple and wanted to be covered. It doesn't say WHAT was covered. Women should be given the right to go without covering their chests, just like men.
We have all be told how wrong it is to go naked, so why do men get to walk around half naked and women can't?
Are men the only ones that find a bare chest attractive? I enjoy a good looking man's chest, but you don't see me jumping on him. It is NORMAL. Women are NORMAL and if given the chance would be more than willing to get the object of social injustice changes, our breasts.
What is so wrong? God made us to use them for a specific purpose. Did you know that MEN can breast feed babies too? It is not an easy undertaking, taking weeks to get the lactation to begin, but it is possible.
Now what kinds of differences are the social cops going to come up with?
Cindy
If a man can walk around in pulic, without his shirt
a woman should have the same rigt. The female breast is
not a private part!
Nate
I live in Missouri! And I have researched various articals, about equal rights! The laws, and the many isssues that are meant to be abolished, with the laws! And, from
what I have come to understand! Under the Equal Rights Act, this was not supposed to have ever been a legal issue! Under any definition
of the term! Women are to be given, the same rights as men! And it is seldom an issue, when a man has nothing covering the skin, from his waist up! So why? Is it so differant for a woman! The only differance is: A womans flesh, is not as close to the ribs, in certain areas! And a woman is capable of breastfeeding! But only after giving birth! And only for a short span of time! I can find no logical reason, that a woman, should have to cover herself, from the waist up! If she dosen't want to! A man is given the open oppertunity, to decide on covering his upper torso, or leave it exsposed! The only thing that I can figure is! At some point, in the past! Some political, big wig, couldn't think up a real issue to spend time on!
Don C.
A short correction to the above comment: a woman is capable of breastfeeding for long periods of time (many years). Also it is possible (though not easy) to induce lactation without giving birth.
Amanda has a good point. See her comment.I am uncomfortable with bare breasts in public because I find women attractive. I find women's breasts attractive also. My wife wears bras almost all the time, because that is comfortable. she has good breasts, and when she is active, they are more comfortable held in place. Our children were breast fed, and our grandsons are being breast fed. We are working on opening our minds to the beauty of all people. Perhaps we can have more areas in our society where it is OK for both genders to relax without tops. Encouraging brestfeeding is a great start.
Greg
As the site suggests, wearing clothes of any sort is almost always a cultural issue. Although medically it may be argued that pale-skinned city dwellers who rarely expose their clothes, let alone thier bare fingers, to the sun might succumb more readily to epidermal infections, nonetheless the driving pressure behind clothes-wearing is cultural. A case in point is that in the west it has become not whether we wear clothes but what clothes we wear that has become important in distinguishing between people who are considered "civilised" (and, by implication, also human) with "uncivilised" and hence also inhuman behaviour. There is now a large social-anthropological literature on "manwatching" (Desmond Morris's iconic term) which explores the use of clothes in "civilised" society as social barriers to privilege people and behaviour that "civilised" people consider to be acceptable from "uncivilised" behaviour where people are then marginalised.
In sum, on the question of bare-breasted women in public, if breasts are considered mere "fatty protusions" (which of course they are), then logically the same argument may be extended to public nudity as a whole. Think through this argument: why fight for topfree in public when the principal fight is between "manwatching", self-proclaimed "civilised" socialites and the vast majority of the rest of the world- including Islamists- who have no hangups about clothes or their bodies, and yet become marginalised by (western) views of clothed=civilised behaviour. How therefore can you fight for topfree without first fighting against a largely western culture of apartheid against pulic nudity?
Wilson
its not fair that women must cover up on very hot days
kaye miller
The biggest hurdle is the fact that so many people equate nudity, of any sort, with sex. Here in England it is difficult to find public areas, as distinct from clubs, where nudity is sanctioned yet 22 miles away in France there is rarely a problem.
Even the concept of breast feeding in public raises all sorts of objections while at the same time we are being advised that mothers' milk is the best thing for a baby!
On French, Spanish and Greek island beaches toplessness is the normal and accepted thing - let us hope that this level of common sense extends to our shores before too long.
Ted
I have thought for years that women should be able to go topless any wher or any time they want ,just like men. If everyone did ther would be no big deal. Our Society has mad a sex object of Breast. I happen to be an avid nudist, and I tellyou that if you have ever visited a nudest resort you will find there is no big deal made of th human body in any form. Furhermore it is total freedom. No one should be judged or considered a obsene person because the bare their bodies. I would like to see the first step legal everywhere. Topless freedom for all!!
Glenn Boyd
Women can go topfree in public. It does not indicate something about sexual all the time.If a woman has to feed her baby in public, she has to expose her breast in public but it means nothing but Motherhood.
Debdut Bhaumik
I feel that if women are comfortable with no bra or topless then they should be allowed to do so I have 3 daughters 22, 14 and 9 the older ones I let go braless and topless at home where we live it's not leagal to go topless in public yet.but at home they do I have been told that I was causing un repairable damage to them by allowing this any comment are welcome
paul
Bravo! Only when female nudity is an everyday occurence will the link of nudity and sexuality disappear.
Most women, when they take the plunge and go to a nudist resort, note that within a few minutes a lightbulb goes on and they get the "Aha" revelation : a body is just a body!
Arne
I am male but I do believe in this topfreedom movement because I do in equality for both genders. It is sexist that female breasts (and nipples) are censored in the media as well as by the government, but yet, male breasts (and nipples) can be shown freely. Seeing a female breast isn't going to kill anyone or put anyone in a sex craze. However, it will take some time to get used to in the USA. Hopefully, one day, the female breasts (and nipples) can be shown free, not as sexual organs, but as feminine, breastfeeding organs, which is what it is intended to be.
Brandon
I really wonder about the whole breast thing in America.I just watched a programme about breastfeeding on daytime TV and no censoring of nipples, no hysterical ranting by the looney fringe ,nothing ,everyone just accepted it as normal and not a problem, now I am located in Australia but I just feel for and support the whole point of this forum and hope that you may sway the minority to shut up unless they have something constructive or supportive to say.
mike
i live in egypt , and when i am at the beach or pool i go freely
sara
I do thing it is high time that we let women show their breasts without any fear of being rediculed for doing so. I see that the media and the goverment have called them sex organs. This is not true. If this was so, men should not be allowed to show his breasts or nipples in public. But we let men show their nipples all the time. And when they do show women topless they hide just the nipple. So yes I agree that women should be allowed to bare their breasts.
Ed Harrington
I am totally opposed to the sexist gender discrimination that says that mens breasts are ok but womens are sexual and must be hidden. The same bias says that childern are harmed by such nudity. I have been a nudist since I was born but was 14 before I went topfree on a public beach. Guess what, no one cared. Even so, top freedom is perfectly legal in Canada and all a woman needs is the confidence to exercise that freedom. I have been featured on the TERA website and in GN Magazine and am something of an activist.
Adelle
I am absolutely in favour of a top free society for which i am trying my best. I am a volunteer for a natural world and we hate this all machines which made our beautiful world in danger. In a top free society a female can enjoy her rights equal to a man. And we are sure that sexual harrasment graf will goes down if we successed in our mission. I am living in pakistan which is a fundamental society and our work / mission is much harder than europe and america.pray for us. thanks.

HI I AM ONLY A TEEN AND USUALY LOOK AT BREASTS IN A SEXUAL WAY HOWEVER AFTER READING THE BREAST PICTURES AND LOOKING AT THEM THEY JUST SEEMED NORMAL
ISTILL THINK THAT FEMALE BREAST ARE A BEATIFUL THING AND SHOULD NOT BE MADE SUCH A BIG DEAL OF IN THE MEDIA
EMILE
Having spent a lifetime battling body image issues, I have to admit that I didn't really begin to get past my crisis point until I attended a nudist resort with a friend. I have always preffered to be bra-free, now I find I am not completely relaxed unless I am *clothes* free. My roomates have also realized how comfortable it is to just cast off a shirt when one gets home and not bother re-dressing until going out again. My skin is healthier and my attitude is healthier now as well.
I just wish the rest of the world understood.....
Gilly
I think that the majority of people make a huge deal of breasts, much bigger than it has to be. Most adults try to avoid their children from seeing breasts at an early age, but the truth is that this makes them uneasy and uncomfortable with the idea of breasts. And in addition to this, males in their teens are more likely to look up porn on the internet which, if it does not just give them the wrong idea about breasts, could also crash a computer through spyware if they don't know how to run spyware programs. If people would be a little more open and free about this subject, then it would not be nearly as hard to breach and childrens' curiosity would already be satisfied. Topless women would induce the feeling of freedom among women, and a feeling that women are humans too among men.
Tyler
I agree with those who feel that in the early stages of women being topless where it has not occurred before, women might be open to abuse and harassment from men. The fear of this might even deter women from being topless. I think a reintroduction of corporal punishment for men who sexually attack women would make women feel safe to be topless, would keep women safe, and send a strong message to men and women that women are to be respected and valued and that the sexual mistreatment of women will not be tolerated.
James
I really resent being a woman and not being able to "toss the bra and shirt" in the summer, especially when doing hot and sweaty yardwork! Yet it is perfectly legal and okay for some of my male neighbors to go topless, regardless of how fat/hairy/or whatever they may be! Not that I am any "babe" but I just have ALWAYS thought this to be unfair and sexist. I didn't understand it as a child, and I STILL don't get it!!
Sandy
I THINK THAT PEOPLE MAKE TOO BIG OF A DEAL ABOUT NUDITY IN THE FIRST PLACE IN THE USA. IN OTHER COUNRTY, NUDITY IS NO A BIG DEAL. THE PEOPLE IN THE USA NEED TO GROW UP AND GET REAL ABOUT NUDITY. FAMILY NUDITY IN OTHER COUNRTIES HAS SOLVED MANY OF THE SEXUAL PROBLEMS THAT THE USA HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO SOLVE. THE PEOPLE IN THE USA CAN LEARN ALOT FROM THE FAMILY NUDITY THAT IS IN OTHER COUNRTIES. UNTIL THIS HAPPENS IN THE USA,THE USA SEXUAL PROBLEMS WILL GET WORSE.
RICKY MURPH
I think that women should be able to walk topless wherever they like. The women's figure is a beautiful thing made by god himself and women should be able to show every bit of it if they want.
Erica
After much consideration, I have come to have a theory that--since men's and women's genitals are what they are naturally most reluctant to bare--these are a person's primary nakedness; almost everyone in the world, including isolated tribes living in jungle areas, makes some attempt to cover these areas. However, while men's chests (when young, strong, thin, and handsome) attract women's gazes, and women's chests (when young, thin, and beautiful) attract men's, that the area one's shirt covers (whether male or female) is 'secondary nakedness'. As a form of nakedness, men's chests used to be constantly covered in America, even at the beach. This has changed, and I don't think that's bad. Similarly, I think that if women breastfed more often (covering the tops of their breast or not) that people would grow less and less concerned about it, and I think that would be good, because it's such a beautiful event to witness--seeing the careful nuturing of a baby by his mother. Do breasts constitute a form of nakedness? Yes. Does that mean they should be hidden in public? In my view, saying 'yes' is the same as saying men should wear shirts at the beach because some women find the men's chests handsome.
Amanda
There is nothing wrong with going topless, women should have the same topless rights as males. In fact women have more of a reason to expose their breasts in public than men, breastfeeding. Men and women, though somewhat differnt, the breasts are the same, tit and skin
I walk naked around my house all the time when no one is home. I think a naked human body is a natural thing, and sexual only if you think of it that way. However, if I lived in Ontario right now, I would be afraid to walk around topless, even though my breasts are small and even though it's legal there. It can't even begin to imagine the harassment, the dirty looks, and the possible sexual abuse I might recieve from either men or women if I did this! It's not just the laws that have to change.
Angela
I personally see no problem with it. If people want to get rid of pornography, then they should at least let women go topless. I am a teenager. I don't like pornography. I always walk around my house naked when I am alone in the house. If the government would just get over it, porn would dissapear. By trying to make less and less nudity allowed, they are just strengthening porn and nudist resorts/beaches (the things they DON'T want to strengthen). I say they would strengthen nudist places because eventually if the USA keeps this up these places will become more and more valuable because there would be less and less places to be nude.
Some person
I believe should have the same rights as men. We should be allowed to be topfree. I believe as women we should stop feeling ashamed of our breasts. Men for centuries have controlled our bodies, I think it is time to show them whose in charge [of our bodies].

I am a 69 year old man and I would like to make a comment on the idea that it is harmful for a child to see a woman's bare breasts. I grew up in rural Arkansas in the 30s and 40s and mothers nursing their babies was a normal everyday sight. Sisters, aunts, mothers, neighbors all nursed the babies and none thought any thing about exposing their breasts before us kids. We weren't traumatized by it either, as far as I know.

I am a 22 yr. old female from Poland and going outdoor topless is something I've done in since so I was a child, since i developed my breasts (12 y.o.). I like to have my breasts free in public and even when i wear t-shirt. I actually never liked wearing bras even considering that I have a big breast. I stopped wearing bra when I was 14. I thing teenagers have to bear their breasts in public just like men and I love to do it as often as possible. I have a friend that is breastfeeding and she very often do it in public, and when we are in the countryside we do not wear shirts for many hours and she breastfeed. There's nothing porn about seeing women's breasts even if are big. Thank you, beautiful site!

I am personally very proud of my breasts - I would love it if topfree was legal where I live. Right now I can only do it in my backyard - but I do it every chance I get. Its very liberating.

This is a VERY cool site. An online friend told me about it. I'm 15 and my mom won't let me out of the house without a bra, but the more I'm learning, the more I try to NOT wear one! If I have daughters, it will be THEIR choice if they wanna wear one or not. But they'll know why I choose NOT to! Thanks for a great site!

Women should have the right to go topfree if they want to - people make that object are those that just want to start something-- a woman should have the same rights as men to go without a shirt or top- it shouldn't be regarded as filthy when it is a natural thing

How do you answer the question that nature has lots of men turned on my a females breasts? I dont believe that is wrong either. So how do you work that out?
Frank
Hello,
It's fairly simple.
It's not 'nature' or anything within their genes turning men on when
seeing something. It is ingrained in their minds by the culture they
live in.
If a man sees bare breasts from boyhood, in everyday life, then he is
not turned on by seeing them.
If a man is led to believe that woman's covered ankles are 'taboo' and
'sexual', then he can be turned on by seeing the ankles.
The human mind is 'programmed' through the process of learning the
values, ideas, and beliefs of the culture you live in. When this
programmation has set it, the processs is fairly automatic. It is
possible to change the 'programmation' though it's not easy. But it's
not in your genes as such.
I fully support making the U.S. a topfree society. I just returned from france where this is normal [on beaches], and it was the most freeing and liberating moment in my life. Even women in the city go topless! I was in a park in Paris, and there were many women sunbathing topless, although they were NOT ON THE BEACH! The people there think absolutely nothing of it - breasts are like arms - and almost everyone - from young girls to very old women - were topless. I think that societies where breasts are hidden hurt everyone - men and women - and personally, i often have uncomforable feelings towards my breasts, as they are seen as pornographic instead of beautiful and NATURAL. THIS IS NOT HEALTHY! We need to make this a topfree society now! Let us join together to make this happen!

Yes I think women should be able to go topfree just like the men do.

I am a 19 yr. old female and going topless is something I've done since so I was about 13 years old and I like not having anything next to my breasts feels good if I wear a shirt and no bra underneath or no shirt at all. I never really liked wearing bras in the first place so I stopped at 15. I believe women should have the right to bear their breasts in public just like men there's nothing wrong with it and I do it as often as possible it give me a great feeling and there's nothing pornographic about seeing women's breasts. I totally support top freedom thank you PS this is an excellent WebSite foreign excellent cause.

In Texas there is no law pertainint to womens breast however if some one complains and they do not put on there shirt they can be charged for disorderly conduct causing a breach of peace. I personally believe that if Texas was like New York and made it legal to go top free the mystique and awww of it would go away and it would not be an issue.
WB
The mystique won't go away just with legislation; it's not common in New York either to see topfree women. It would require a change in how the general population - the whole culture - views the female breast.
I feel I should be able to go topless if I want to. My breasts are mine and if I want to show them off I should be able to.
Jenny
I am a man who lives in Texas which supposedly has no law prohibiting women from going without a top. In warm weather I like to remove my shirt and feel the sun and the wind on my bareskin as I drive in the country When I do so I attract no attention from the police since I am a man. I hope that my passenger would be free to do the same whether that person is a male or a female. It is only fair.
Bick
What a silly law in Wisconsin! "Harmful to children??" I challenge whoever made that law to look at 20 children, 5 of whom see breasts regularly (through breastfeeding, seeing their siblings breast feed, or even from a nude household), and pick out which ones have seen them and which ones haven't.
PW
The female breast is both aesthetic form and a natural, life giving functional organ. Either way, we should appreciate their qualities, rather than shroud them in, some ridiculous notion of shame.
FWM
I think it is so stupid that it is ok for men to be able to go topless and if women do the same it is considered wrong. They are only breast and men have them too.
Brent
I agree; however, it will take a long time (decades) to make headway in this country. It amazes me that the US can be so advanced in some areas of human culture and so backwards on this issue. Also bothers me that US interests want to convince other cultures that breasts are a sexual organ and must be covered. That behavior I truly find shameful.
Raul Cuellar
I wish that this culture would lose their attitude about the bare breat. It is only another body part that is made shameful by this culture, only for men's pleasure. I am more to a man (mankind) than just an object.
I totally agree with topfreedom. I wish female could go as males and go topless. Being a male, and with breasts myself, even I have to be careful where I take my shirt off in public. If the women could do it maybe they wouldn't stare at mine so much.
T
More power to you! I think that our law makers should be informed, and laws should be made to protect women who choose to be top-free in public. I think womens breast are a beautiful part of the female body. God made women to be admired not to be covered up. Womens Breast have absolutely nothing to do with sex no more than a man's. They are beautiful and should be admired. Women, be proud of your breast no matter the size. Show them off. Take care of them. They are put there for a purpose... to nourish and feed new human life. That's nothing to be ashamed of and covered up.
It is your right if you choose. Protect your rights.

This is a great site! I am writing a paper for my english class about this. I live in WI (Wisconsin) and there is a law against exposing the female breast because it is "harmful to children". I could not believe this! Seeing your site only re-states what I am arguing, and it is nice to know that you all are out there doing something about it!
Melissa
AWESOME SITE! I feel better after having read this. This is a good site for teens with developing bodies, to show how everyone matures differently, and that each one is normal. Breasts are not something to be ashamed of!
